Ischgl has a wide choice of smart hotels – more than is usual in an Austrian resort. However, prices tend to be higher than in the Tirolean heartland of the Kitzbüheler Alps with which Britons are more familiar. The most convenient places to stay are near, but not on, the main street, away from late-night noise and with mountain access lifts just a short walk away.
This friendly two-star is in the suburb of Waldhof, 2km from the resort centre and 50m from a ski bus stop.
In Mathon, 4km from the centre of Ischgl, Residence Gramaser opened in 2018 and is a smart apart-hotel comprising four rooms and four apartments with a free shuttle to shops, bars and the Silvretta gondola.
Hotel Val Sinestra
Thanks to its elevated position just below the piste, intermediates are able to slide straight to the door of Hotel Val Sinestra, a charming and traditional chalet hotel that best suits guests looking for a small hotel with a homely and personal atmosphere.
Book it: From £879 with Inghams (inghams.co.uk)
Unquestionably the coolest address in town. While the Hotel Trofana Royal is traditional Tirolean, the Hotel Madlein is free-range designer contemporary. The wellness area has a blue pool and a fire room where guests can relax on benches in front of a central hearth.
Hotel Trofana Royal
This five-star superior is Ischgl’s top establishment. Dining at Hotel Trofana Royal is special, with Gault Millau and Michelin awarded chef Martin Sieberer at the helm, as is the spacious spa, with both indoor and outdoor pools and an array of treatments on offer.

Chalet Hotel Abendrot
Close to the resort centre, but tucked away from the noisy main drag, the four-star Chalet Hotel Abendrot is an easy walk from either the Silvretta or Fimba lifts, and in mid-winter it’s possible to ski back to within 50m of the hotel.
